The 55th Anniversary of The Museum’s Establishment The 55 Selected Works to Move The Heart

Date: Sun, Aug 31 ‐ Sun, Nov 30, 2025

Adachi Museum of Art houses numerous Japanese paintings by Yokoyama Taikan, Takeuchi Seiho, Kawai Gyokudo, Uemura Shoen, Kawabata Ryushi, Sakakibara Shiho and others. Their subjects can be found in various kinds of Japanese paintings: In kacho-ga, seasonal plants and animals are depicted in an exuberant manner, landscape paintings tastefully express abundant nature, while portraits depict not only the appearance but also the inner aspects of human beings in a decorous manner. Some are depicted with bright colors, others are expressed with profound, mystic sumi color. And those expressed in a free, bold manner, and those depicted in a delicate brush stroke can be found among them. As a whole, these works are diverse and full of unique attractions.
This exhibition will display 55 masterpieces, celebrating the 55th anniversary of the Adachi Museum’s establishment. We will select 55 masterpieces from those by grand masters of the modern Japanese art world. These depict an aesthetic consciousness that is unique to the Japanese, adding expressions of the seasonal changes against the background of the nation’s exuberant climate and culture. We hope that you enjoy these works, which will go straight to your heart.
